  11. Purpose of the Echo (Conference)
  12. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  13.        IGA_TEST is to be used by all participants in IGA_Net<tm> to 
  14. enter test messages for the purpose of checking for proper format and 
  15. content. It is not intended to be used as a general-communications 
  16. echo.

  18. Procedures
  19. ~~~~~~~~~~
  20.        Prior to a new node entering any message traffic on any of the 
  21. echoes in IGA_Net, that new node should enter a test message on/in the 
  22. IGA_TEST echo and receive clearance by reply that their message meets 
  23. the criteria required for participation in IGA_Net echoes.

  25. Prohibited Traffic
  26. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  27.        1. No commercial traffic is allowed
  28.        2. Do *not* enter a personal attack (flame) in this echo. Do 
  29. *not* attack a person. Politely inform them of any perceived problem 
  30. with their message format/content.

  32.        3. The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the
  33. originator of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a
  34. tagline, the tagline will only be a short line detailing research
  35. surnames:

  37.                 Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
  38.  
  39. Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
  40. being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
  41. greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.

  43. Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
  44. cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
  45. telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
  46. paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.

  48. Other Rules

  51. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
  52. (above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
  53. less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
  54. with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
  55. in messages in this echo.

  58.        All rules published which relate to the general operation of 
  59. IGA_Net are applicable in this echo.
